Variable Flaps are ideal for extra protection for your packaging due to the outer flaps overlay by an inch or more so it prevents them from separating. Used where the length of the box is significantly greater than the width, making for a long distance between end flaps. 
Extra Depth Flaps are ideal for having the posibility to do many box sizes with the same one due to the corners can be cut down to another score line to decrease the depth of the box.
